So I’ve been really quiet over the December Holiday period… you know how it goes, LIFE happens. I’ll get into the nitty gritty of why in this post but basically I am exhausted! So I decided to prioritize my boys during the school holidays over work. But I’ll be jumping right back in, sorry, you aren’t rid of me yet!
I’ve never done a post on it but I did mention it on my about me page, I have hypothyroidism (an under active thyroid). Between that, low blood pressure, and being anemic, I sometimes wonder how I get through the day!
Besides it NOT doing it’s job properly, it’s also in the wrong place! What can I say?? I like to under-achieve in a big way… It’s on the back of my tongue (it’s called a lingual thyroid) and it’s very rare, a doctor once called me a liar when I told him I had it!
When I had my tonsils removed (I think I was about 20 years old) my ENT found a “growth” on the base of my tongue (your thyroid is probably at the bottom of your throat, where it should be) and decided to biopsy it. I can’t say for sure, because I never had my TSH levels tested before but I also never noticed any symptoms, but after that piece was taken out, and they determined it was my thyroid, that’s when all the trouble started.
If you want to read more about this condition click here. You might have thyroid issues and not even know it, it’s MUCH more common than people think. If you have any of the symptoms (fatigue, weakness, weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight, coarse dry hair, dry and/or rough pale skin, hair loss, cold intolerance, muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches, constipation, depression, irritability, memory loss, abnormal menstrual cycles, decreased libido) do yourself a favour and have your blood tested, a few hundred Rand could change your life!
