The latest addition to one of the best ‘food streets’ in Cape Town, housed in a striking black building, their name says it all… With three items on the menu, all done to perfection, this is the place to go for a burger and/or lobster!

The decor is simple and stunning, very New York-esque, keep an eye out for the bare brick lobster carved into the wall.

The simplicity of the food menu is in stark contrast to the drinks menu. They are all so unique and interesting, choosing a drink was no easy feat!

The restaurant is extremely dark, great for ambience, not so great for photographs, sorry about that.

We ordered a Bacon & Maple Old Fashioned (photo above left) and a Chicito Brew, both delicious, the Old Fashioned was the best I’ve ever had. The smell of the bacon while you’re drinking just takes this drink to a whole new level! During the course of the evening we also had the Cucumber & Dill Martini, very refreshing. The Hawaii 5.0 (photo above right) is a vacation in a glass, and definitely my favourite for the night. Lastly we had the Wolf of Bree Street, too sweet for me, but don’t let that deter you.

What makes this restaurant stand out from the rest? The fact that they make almost everything on site, from baking brioche rolls, mincing up top-quality steaks, to pickling their own gherkins!

They don’t even use binding agents in the burger patties, it’s just pure unadulterated meat. It’s big, it’s pure, and it’s good… This burger features two types of homemade cheese (American and a mild white cheddar), maple syrup bacon, gherkins, and homemade mayonnaise. If you just kinda sort-of like meat then this burger is NOT for you.

The lobster roll, made with West Coast Rock Lobster tail, is buttery and succulent, drizzled with Japanese mayo and nestled in a fresh brioche roll. I am #TeamLobster for sure! They also have a whole Lobster option, if you can afford it, I’m sure it’s incredible.

All the dishes come with a big portion of American-style fries and a side salad, not a three lettuce leaf side, a delicious salad with a balsamic reduction, croutons, and so much more! They tell you that you can skip the salad but I recommend getting it, especially with the meaty-meat burger.

Tip! At Burger & Lobster Cape Town you and  friend can have the best of both worlds… Order and share half a burger and half a lobster roll!

Not on the menu the desserts come as quite a surprise, especially since they bring an entire platter of choices to show you. They have a Creme Brûlée, Lindt Dark Chocolate Brownie, Mudpie with Marshmallow and an Oreo & Nutella Cheesecake.

We were so full that we shared the Creme Brûlée, absolutely divine, proper perfect homemade custard with a sugar crust, it’s as pretty as it is delectable!

As if everything I had that night wasn’t enough I even got a takeaway Lindt brownie! A huge brownie, one person couldn’t possibly finish the entire dark rich chocolatey goodness on their own, and trust me I tried! A breakfast brownie for the books!

I can’t wait to go back and have more lobster and try the rest of the desserts… Yum yum yum!
