Pinnacle in April 2016

We have been going to Pinnacle Point on and off for about 9 years now. This golf estate is situated in Mossel Bay, right on the cliffs looking over the sea.

The golf course is amazing, we pretty much always get at least one day of 5-star golf weather every time we go, all year round. Apparently this is a good thing… Just kidding, I’m not THAT clueless about golf, almost, but not quite. We go through to Pinnacle reasonably often with our closest friends, they go four times a year. It’s been a part of our lives for so long it’s crazy! My son had his first holiday there (at the ripe old age of 5 weeks) back in 2008. I realized I was pregnant with my second while on holiday there in 2011. I can’t actually list all the amazing memories, I’d be here for days!

Our kids love to play golf with their dads, so in an effort to save the dads the trauma of 4 noisy hyperactive monsters ruining their entire game, we take a drive down on the golf cart (now renamed the golf calf due my 3 year old’s unique way of speaking) towards the end of their game and watch in horror as they are let loose on the unsuspecting golf course. Yes, it is that dramatic and I love taking photos of it all. Next time I’ll document the behind the scenes screaming, chasing and throwing of clubs for you!

We drive around on the golf cart a lot, this recent trip I spent half the holiday driving around with the kids. To the park and all over the estate, it’s always a big hit!

Our trip to Pinnacle usually goes like this:

  • Aiming to leave first thing in the morning… actually leaving at noon.
  • A long drive with screaming kids, stopping at farm stalls and buying biltong at the Heidelberg Biltong Factory (trust me, stop and get some).
  • We finally arrive at Pinnacle Point, unpack, and then the husbands “quickly” go to the shop. By that I mean they go buy groceries for about 3 hours because they can never seem to locate the milk in the BAR they “accidentally” found themselves in.
  • Four kids in the bath in a soon to be flooded bathroom.
  • And finally, the great who’s sleeping where debate before bedtime. (Do any other mom’s hear the sound of singing angels at bedtime after a long day?)

We love to explore Mossel Bay and surrounding areas, usually going as far as Knysna. This last trip we skipped Knysna but that was the first time in years. We always go through to this fantastic family owned Pizzeria called Chatters, they make the best pizza around! If you’re in Knysna make sure you stop and have a bite here.

This trip we went down to the Mossel Bay harbour a few times, had an awesome time! You can read about the places we visited here. We went to Grootbrak Rivier and discovered tons of beaches and an amazing restaurant, more about that here. We also spent a day out in Wilderness, at the market and the Timberlake Village. I wrote a more detailed post about that outing here. Stunning weather, delicious food and so much fun with friends and family!

The best thing about small town holidays is the randomness of them. As a rule, we go around buying and doing random stuff we would never do at home. Shop in places we wouldn’t normally shop, and buy entirely too much food and booze and then end up eating and drinking A LOT (this is not a complaint). One thing we don’t do is play board games, despite the fact that we pack at least 2 every single time we go… One day we’ll stop packing them. Ugh, who am I kidding, no we won’t.

We’ve done a lot of fun, ridiculous things over the years. This trip we found Russian hats at Mr P in Langeberg Mall. You wouldn’t believe how people stared at Ed (that’s what we call Erica, picture below) walking around wearing this hat! Possibly exacerbated by the tracksuit bottom and world’s brightest Nike combination. Then while perusing the biscuit aisle in Pick’n’Pay Cassidy (also below, hint: she’s the young one) came to tell us she was going to get her ear pierced again, so as one does, I decided to get one too. You know what they say – when in Mossel Bay… Well, long story short I ended up getting two at the top of my ear, wasn’t sore at the time but it’s hurt like a *bleeping bleep* ever since! You’ll spot it on my Instagram account soon I’m sure.

So many years of Pinnacle crazy cannot possibly be condensed into one post, but I hope you’ll come back and read about our adventures going forward. There will be many and I promise the level of ridiculousness will only increase.
