I’ve always loved getting packages and the only thing better than getting one I’ve ordered is one that’s a surprise! So I was all smiles when this lovely box arrived at my door the other day… I couldn’t wait to peek inside!

Inside I found some amazing Van Loveren wines, Walker Bay spices, and awesome recipes cards! All together it equalled quite a few delicious winter nights at home.

The Blue Velvet Pinot Noir (2015 Platter Guide 3 Star Winner) was nice and earthy with a distinct dark berry flavour. Below you’ll find a recipe for cottage pie (amongst others) that you can enjoy with this Pinot Noir. We paired it with a hearty Lamb Soup and a blazing fire.

The Red Muscadel (2015 Platter Guide 3 1/2 Star Winner) is a lovely sweet fortified wine, perfect as a dessert served with some delicious local cheese, like Fairview Chevin or Camembert. We have ended a few of our dinners with a glass of this lovely Muscadel. Give it a try! Tip: Serve it cold on ice as an Aperitif in Summer.

We paired the Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot with a Roast Chicken and Roast leg of Lamb served with roasted potatoes and vegetables. This dark, rich wine is soft on the palate and complements the meaty flavour of the food with it’s sweeter notes.

 

I enjoyed all the wine but my favourite was definitely the African Java Pinotage!

A smooth easy drinking pinotage, a bit spicy but still sweet, with a lingering coffee aftertaste. It really goes down well! If you’re only getting one of the above wines I would go with this one, but why oh why would you only get one???
